Subject: A/M
Pete, these are just a few of the pictures of my A/M presentation after 45 & more years of waiting. My
Congressman (Jared Polis. Dem. His office is in Boulder,) is presenting with his infant son attending. My
sons & daughter, spouses, & 3 of my 8 grandkids are also there. I wanted it low-keyed, so it was
just family & a few friends. Have more pics available, & can send copies of the actual
commendations if necessary. (Funny,--Cdr Gibbs pinned my A/M & A/C Wings on me on the Tarmac on Guam,
06/30/66.) I received my 3rd bronze star a few mos. ago and am currently awaiting an update on my DD214/15.
Even with all my evidence, I'm still being sent from one agency to another!
I would also like to thank Cap't Barton (12th. CO of VW-1) & Bud Horn (VW-1 Metro/Nav 1964-66) for
their extremely helpful advice. I would never be where I am now without their expertise.
If you still have the packet I sent you a couple years ago, feel free to use whatever you need....On my
original flt logs, I have approx. 603 hrs in the combat zone---enough for more medals, but I'll be
satisfied with the one....
As I mentioned, I have over 6 yrs dealing with the VA for benefits...a long drawn out affair, but well
worth it!!! Will share.
By the way, my A/M was authorized 1/06/12 and presented to me in my Congressman's office on 1/20/12.
Will send more pics or whatever you deem necessary... Stay in touch Pete, .....Dick....
ps....already got Bud, Jack W(aterworth). my 2 brothers & brother-in-law, & several other Vietnam
vets started in the claims process with the VA. ......get a good DAV rep, & know up front what
questions to present..D...
Question: Even though they sent me the PUC (Presidential Unit Citation) ribbon in 1990, I'm not including
it my awards. I haven't heard anyone else in the squadron receiving it, so if they ever change their minds,
at least I have it. It will stay in it's box just like it has for the last 22 yrs. But I'm still curious
about the MUC.. I've heard of a citation to the officers and men of VW-1 for "Meritorious service in
support of operations in Vietnam and the Pacific Command.....during the period 1 Jan '65 to 31 Dec '65".
This was signed by Roy L. Johnson, Admiral USN. Does this qualify??? I'm pretty sure it says Meritorious
Unit Citation....? ....Stay in touch...Dick..

Site Managers comment: Five of Richard's letters are shown
on this page, his flight logs are shown on this page
Richard's receipt of the PUC was apparently sent in error. He is the only one known to have received this
award.
A copy of The Commander in Chief United States Pacific Fleet commendation for meritorious service in 1965
that Richard mentions is shown a few lines above.
