These Youtube video clips were taken during the April 2013 VW-1 reunion in Tucson AZ. In all several hours of videos were taken but only a few relatively short clips are included here. Many of the videos have a lot of background noise that interferes with the intended dialog.
The first of three video clips were taken while Norbert Monohan, John Rice and Jim Tandy
were up early one morning when most of the other reunion attendees were having breakfast. They recall
memories of meals in flight during typhoon penetrations, honey bucket duties and other flight crew
duties.
The second of three video clips were taken while Norbert Monohan, John Rice and Jim
Tandy were up early one morning when most of the other reunion attendees were having breakfast. They recall
SAR operations for a VAP-61 aircraft that ditched a few miles from Guam and of a Marine transport aircraft that
crashed in the ocean, and recalling the length of flights and some basic SAR operations. They never ventured to
far from the meals aboard the aircraft. Operations out of Taiwan and the heavy security that the Nationalist Chinese
had.
The third of three video clips were taken while Norbert Monohan, John Rice and Jim Tandy
were up early one morning when most of the other reunion attendees were having breakfast. John relates
landing in Taiwan on three engines and the heavy security that the Nationalist Chinese had.
They recall the length of flights and some basic SAR operations, they never ventured to far from the meals
aboard the aircraft. Operations out of Taiwan and the heavy security that the Nationalist had. John also
mentions the sulpher baths in Taiwan. Norbert mentions concerns by his wife of flying.
This video is mostly of Jim Tandy recalling his days on Guam scuba diving and snorkeling
with his buddies. Gay Oulman and Jane Link are in the background and latter in the video make a few comments
about their husbands work. Sally Metzger appears in the last portion of this video clip.
This video clip is of Sally Metzger and Norbert Monohan swapping stories,
Joyce Dunn listens in and appears briefly on the right but she is mostly off camera, Flo O'Reilly makes a brief appearance
from the left. In this first video Sally relates a midnight phone call to her son in Alaska.
In this video Sally recalls evening discussions involving tough questions on Guam
with neighbors and friends, Everett Speas also makes a short appearance. Norbert Monohan recalls how he
learned about the VW-1 All Hands Alumni Association. Sally and Norbert also recall their deceased spouses.
Norbert also recalls how his wife Linda learned more of Norbert's times while in a flight status.
