VW-1 welcomes its new command. In Cdr. Earl A. Luehman, the squadron is fortunate to have a C.O. who knows more about the outfit than the oldest hand on board. Formerly the executive Officer of VW-1 Cdr. Luehman has been in the squadron since October of 1952.
Lt. Cdr. Marcus P. Horn, our new executive officer, comes to VW-1 from duty with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C. Prior to his Washington tour, Mr Horn was assistant intelligence officer for Commander Naval Air Forces Germany. Expressing his pleasure in his present assignment, Mr. Horn promises to direct all his efforts toward the growth of airborne early warning.
Cdr. Fernald P. Anderson, former VW-1 skipper, is still within hailing distance, having moved his desk over to ComFairHawaii Staff as Plans Officer. Leaving a squadron proud of its accomplishments and development after one year of commissioned service. Cdr. Anderson can be assured of continued admiration and gratitude from the Officers and men of VW-1. The squadron wishes Cdr. and Mrs Anderson its fondest Aloha and its wishes for the best of "cruises" from here on.
In assuming command of VW-1 Cdr. Luehman expressed his determination to continue expansion of the services and support functions that this squadron provides for the Pacific Fleet.
"Through the splendid cooperation of squadron personnel and the Naval Air Station, Barber's Point, VW-1 confidently looks toward its second year of achievement and service. It is my hope," said Cdr. Luehman, "that the happy relationships established with other organizations will continue to be a source of high moral and teamwork for all units based at Barber's Point."
