- These are a few of the Photos that we took while hiking to Tarzan Falls. We drove east from Agat on Rt. 17
the Cross Island Rd. and found the dirt road heading north towards the falls. We took it as far as conditions
allowed and then hiked the rest of the way through open savanna, heavy erosion and a bit of jungle. At a high
point on the mountain there was a house whose occupants had a beautiful view of Apra harbor, they also had a
Japanese cannon nearby. We hiked through some of the WWII battle fields and looked through some of the old,
heavily damaged tanks.
The 4th. picture from the left is looking NNW from this mountain top, if you look closely at the enlarged view
you can see Tumon Bay and Two Lovers Leap.
-
- As we hiked along some of us got a bit futher along than the others.
The name of the first guy on the left was Burns, but I've forgotten the names of the others. The 3rd, guy from
the left, in the white shirt, found a morter shell left over from WWII and picked it up and started shaking it.
We had a hell of a time convincing him to put it down, but he finally did.
Blankenship, in the white shirt, and Burns inspect this battle damaged tank that we came across during our
hike.
Another view of the same tank, or is it? I've forgotten that was almost 50 years ago.
-
- Another view of the interior of Guam.
When we came over a small hill we found what we had been looking for... Tarzan Falls. We sat and looked at it
for awhile and then someone said lets go to the bottom, and away we went.
I'm not sure if these two photos were taken going down or coming back up but it was steep either way. The
closer you got to the water the tougher the going got, the jungle closed in on you, and so did the mosquitoes.
That grass on the hillsde is saw grass and it did cut our arms. On return trips we wore long sleeve
shirts.
-
- Very shortly after getting to the pool at the bottom of the falls we got into our swimming suits and cooled
off. We estimated these falls to be about 30 to 40 feet tall.
-
- One more shot of us cooling off in the pool at the bottom of Tarzan Falls.
Thats me, Al Garza, on the left and my buddy Burns. We went to the falls a couple more times.
A picture taken on Marine Dr. heading back to to Agana.
Going back in the gate of NAS Agana.
-
- These last 3 pictures were taken when we went out looking for a Japanese bunker N.W of NAS. Thats me, Al
Garza, on the left and my buddy Burns.
Here we are getting ready to go into the bunker, nothing much... just an empty concrete bunker
Apparently some of the family members of the Japanese soldiers who were killed on Guam would honor them with
prayer sticks and flowers.
This last picture is from another hike we took to the falls. Mia Elana, the owner of a bar that carried her
name, asked us to take her along on this hike. No, she did not swim with us. This time the falls had a lot more
water coming down, we must have had a good recent rain.
