Tarague Beach

- Passing through the "gate way" to Tarague Beach on Andersen Air Force Base for the first time will always
be remembered. As you drove through the high plateau terrain toward the north shore of Guam through the break
in the cliffs and then the breathtaking view at the edge of the cliffs. Rota, Guam’s nearest neighboring island
about 40 miles north, could be seen on clear days.

- After driving down the narrow winding road on the face of the cliffs you would arrive at Tarague
Beach.

- Walking along Tarague Beach was allowed up to a point and then signs would warn of dangers or restricted
areas.
Another good photo opportunity at Tarague Beach. Helms is pictured on the right, his buddies name has been
forgotten over the years.

- Tarague Beach was protected by a reef several hundred yards off shore, this helped keep the waters crystal
clear and provided easy swimming. Hochstein is at the top of the pyramid, Helms is pictured on the left.
Hochstein is pictured on the left, the name of the other man has been forgotten.
The clarity of the warm waters around Guam can easily be seen in this picture. Snorkeling along the edges of
the various reefs was a favorite past time. The abundance of wildly colorful tropical fishes, sea shells and
reefs were truly amazing. Hochstein is pictured on the left Helms is on the right.

- Tarague beach on the north end of Guam was a beautiful beach that provided servicemen and their families
opportunities for relaxation. "Moe" and Mavis Morris along with Elaine Wallis are pictured enjoying a day at
the beach. Larry Wallis tends the steaks on the grill in the 2nd picture.
