2nd. Picture from the left: Street scene #1 on main thorough fare of Cavite City in the Philippine Islands. The
most common mode of transportation within the city limits was the 'Jeepney', the equivalent of the American
taxi. These were Jeeps left over from WWII that the Pilipino's rebuilt and colorfully repainted, no two
Jeepneys were alike.
3rd. Picture from the left: Street scene #2 on main thorough fare of Cavite City in the Philippine Islands.
During their stay in town, VW-1'ers would hire a 'Jeepney driver' for a few Peso's to take them to a different
section of the town. In these days one dollar would be converted to about 7 Pesos.
4th. Picture from the left: Most roads outside the cities in the Philippines were not well paved, quite narrow
and did not have much of a shoulder. The slightest in-attention at the wheel would give the results shown in
this scene. This also would occur when drivers of large trucks preferred using the center of the road, leaving
the Jeepney driver no other choice.

The market place in the Philippines was the everyday shopping place for the Pilipino's. Farmers and fishermen
would make their produce available to the city dwellers. Many of these stalls also sold clothing or other dry
goods.
