The format for our round was a $1.00 Nassau. Each player chipped in $3.00, $1.00 was awarded the player who shot the lowest score for the front 9, back 9 and total score. Ralph Link won the front nine by shooting a 42 but shot a 46 on the back for a total of 88. Tony Watson shot a 44 on the front and 42 on the back for a total of 86, winning the back nine and lowest total. Each player donated his winnings to the VW-1 All Hands Alumni Association's general fund.
The initial scoring showed that Pete Wasmund was the winner of the back nine and total strokes but a recheck of the score cards showed the error.
The course played was the Admiral Baker South Course. Scores ranged from 86 to 140, but we won't embarrass individuals by posting their scores. Play on the course was relatively slow, so we did not have time to play the 19th hole. We just had enough time to negotiate San Diego traffic to get back to the hotel, and get ready for the evening diner and show.Even though none of us shot what we would have had we golfed on our home courses, the time spent together with old shipmates will be remembered for a long time and we look forward to the next golf tournament and challenging Tony Watson for the bragging rights in Colorado Springs.
