INFORMATION FOR PERSONNEL REPORTING ABOARD VW-1 (CONT'D)


30. SCHOOLS:

A school is maintained on the base for the benefit of armed forces personnel. The grades are from kindergarten through the 7th. The school is located near Gate #3. A Navy school bus runs daily to pick up the children. Children arriving from the mainland have to undergo a physical. Call the dispensary at 62137 for an appointment.

31. SECURITY OFFICE:

The security office is located near Gate #2 as located on the map, and is responsible for the following:

32. SICK CALL:

Sick call for dependents is held between 0800 and 1130 abd 1300 to 1545 daily. Children needing shots can receive them between 0800 and 0900 weekdays Sick call for naval personnel is held at 0730, 1300 and 1800 daily, and any- time for emergency cases.

33. SMALL STORES:

Small stores is located in Bldg. 117. It is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 0815 to 1130 and 1300 to 1500. Wednesdays and Fridays, the hours are 0815 to 1130.

34. THEATER:

The outdoor theater is located on Shangra La near the Exchange area. During the winter months, the movie starts at 1930 and at 2000 during the summer months. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown at the indoor theater at 1800 and 2000. The indoor theater is located near Yorktown and Saipan.

35. TRANSPORTATION:

The first bus from Honolulu to Barber's Point leaves at 0600. The first bus from Barber's Point to Honolulu leaves at 0700. From 0700 until 1400 buses run once an hour. From 1400 until 1800 buses run once every half hour. From 1800 to 2300 buses run every hour. The last bus leaves town at 2300 daily, except weekends: on weekends last bus from town leaves at 0100. There is a local shuttle bus that makes a round of the base once an hour. Cars are not cheap and gas is expensive.

36. UNIFORMS:

Working uniforms are undress whites or dungarees for enlisted personnel and khaki for officers and CPO's. Liberty uniform for the enlisted personnel is dress blue or dress white. Officers will wear khaki, as will CPO's when on liberty. Appropriate civilian dress is also authorized for all hands when on liberty.
