E X T E N D I N G ON GUAM

We run the risk of being dubbed repetitious. But informing all hands on a continuing basis concerning criteria for extension of tour on Guam is a must because this is a case where ignorance is by no means bliss. First and 4-most, don't be late in submitting your chit. Six months prior to TCD is minimum lead time and 12 months prior to TCD is maximum. If you're married and your wife is in the States and you want to extend your tour, forget it. Otherwise, you must present proof that you are legally separated from the distaff side or that divorce is pending. If you're E-3 or below, and not a designated striker, do not entertain thoughts about extending on Guam. You don't come under the program. Thinking that you can extend your tour less than six months is thinking the unthinkable. Extensions are granted on 12 month increments.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, READ THIS:

The RECORD OF EMERGENCY DATA, page two of your service record must always be up to date! News of traffic deaths, Vietnam casualty statistics, not to mention natural causes, give enough hints of mortality. When the Grim Reaper reaps, this page of the service record is the document used in the decedent affairs, i.e. notification of primary and secondary next of kins, payment of death gratuity and arrears in pay, etc. If you haven't verified your service record lately, see your personnelman. He is friendly to a fault.

OSVEY

Men not on SEAVEY whose tour is over are rotated through a prcedure called OSVEY (Overseas Service Survey) in our office jargon. OSVEY calls for you to indicate on a rotation data card your duty preference five months prior to transfer (i.e. in April for tours ending in September). If because of operational commitment you won't be around to fill out your card on date due, come up to the Personnel office and fill ou the card ahead of time. The OSVEY desk will hold it and send it in on schedule.

Not long ago, from out of the blue, we received orders for 25 Airmen to report to the USS RANGER. This is an object lesson to those non-rated men who desire to be accompanied by their wives on Guam. These men are liable any time to be told to pack it to go. If a wife is in the picture, color it sad, because she cannot travel at government expense. With those whose wives just got here at great expense, only to turn around and go right back, this game is doubly rough.

BANG: Your dead, Time. I know I got you. I couldn't have missed. I was standing so close when I fired
die Die DIE!: Why don't you die? Why don't you Die, Time? Why won't you die?
I try so hard, I really do. But I can't KILL you. I just can't kill you. You won't die.
You'll just go on and On and ON and you won't die, and I can't kill you... But you can kill me... can't you, Time?
