Well, to answer all the questions of those who feel they qualified for the "Hundred Knotter" patches, and were wondering where they are, they're HERE!

The patches are to be awarded to those persons who made a LOW LEVEL penetration into a typhoon that had sustained surface winds of 100 knots or greater. The catch is LOW LEVEL. A penetration at 10,000 feet does not qualify you.

Last year, nearly 75 squadron personnel made the terrifying low level penetration, and as such, will be eligible to receive the patch. It will be issued in conjuction with a handsomely engraved cerfificate indicating the person, date, time, and location of said penetration.

Due to the lack of proper record keeping prior to September 1966, only those persons who made the penetrations in 1966 and 1967 and latter will be eligible for the patch. To those of you who feel you earned one prior to 1966, we're "So Solly!" We'd like to give the patches to everyone, but we just can't.

A list of eligible persons follows, and as soon as arrangements are made, the certificates and patches will be awarded. The patches cost a few pennies apiece, so whether they will be awarded free, depends on the generosity of the Welfare and Rec Fund, or the Coffee Messes, or ultimately, the Commanding Officer. So, as soon as they're ready we'll let you know.
